Kaprun - Kitzsteinhorn
Located at the foot of the Kitzsteinhorn, Kaprun is a prime tourism destination in Europe. With five thousand beds, and around 650,000 overnight stays per year, the village is also one of the economically strong regions of the Alpine country Austria. A special attraction for tourists from all over the world is the glacier at a height of 2,900 meters. Here are the best conditions for winter sports enthusiasts enjoying unadulterated fun in the snow.
Even in summer some of the total 41 km of trails are well passable. Over 15 kilometers of the fluffy snow are the little brother of the mighty Kitzsteinhorn, the Maiskogel. The family mountain, with its more shallow slopes is the ideal entry terrain for winter sport. Getting up to the summit is easy: The ski bus takes guests directly to the lifts and cable cars.
Figurehead of the town Kaprun with centuries of eventful history is the ancient castle of Kaprun. The castle, that was built on a prominent piece of rock in the 12th Century, got completely restored in 1975 and is now the site of many cultural events. Focal point is the east tower in the Romanesque style, so called 'Turn ze Chaprunne'. It should have been built as a compensation for the abuses of the Velber.
