Hiking circuit C18: The memory trail

The town of Schirmeck is consecrated "City of Remembrance" and, more recently, "City of Memory" with the creation of the Alsace-Moselle Memorial and the Memorial trail. Schirmeck owes its name, and undoubtedly its creation, to its castle ("Schirmen ecke" or "the corner which protects") which appears for the first time in 1328 under the name of Neufville en Barembach. Throughout its history, the castle will fulfill its role of protector of the inhabitants of the surroundings.
