The museum offers locals and guests insights into the life and work of the popular folk writer Ludwig Ganghofer, the history of Leutasch village and hunting in Leutasch.

Ludwig Ganghofer, probably the most widely read and most frequently filmed German-language author, spent more than 20 years in Gaistal in his hunting lodge "Hubertus". From there he wrote numerous works, including his best-known, "Das Schweigen im Walde".

For his part, his hunting lodge in the Gaistal became a meeting place for many well-known personalities around 1900. Among his guests were Ernst von Wolzogen, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Richard Strauss, the conductor Bruno Walter, the world-famous singer Leo Slezak; sometimes the entire Vienna Burgtheater ensemble gave guest performances at his house, as did the painters Franz von Stuck, Fritz Kaulbach, Franz Defregger, Mathias Schmid, Hugo Engl and Hermann Ebers. His circle of friends included Johannes Brahms, Johann Strauss Sohn, Rainer Maria Rilke, Ricarda Huch, Gerhard Hauptmann, Thomas Mann and the Kaiser (Wilhelm II).

The Kulturhaus Ganghofermuseum Leutasch and the book "Ludwig Ganghofer im Wettersteingebirge" as well as the "Hausbuch von Hubertus" provide insight into the life of Ludwig Ganghofer until his death in 1920.
