The 10 fairy tale scenes are spread along a approximately one-kilometer-long circular route by the wayside. The Fairy Tale Trail Hechingen is not accessible with strollers or wheelchairs.
Although fairy tales are hundreds of years old, they still enchant young and old alike! They are continually reinvented or told differently, so the magic is passed down from generation to generation.
How about testing your fairy tale knowledge right in nature?
Interactive stations:
To make the Fairy Tale Trail even more varied, there are so-called “interactive or experience stations” at five of the fairy tale stops to help understand and grasp the content of the fairy tales. For example, XXL hidden object pictures, an audio station, or a question-and-answer game await eager fairy tale explorers.
Tip:
Those who want to extend the fairy tale walk into a family hike are recommended to take our circular hiking trail "Martinsberg-Tour". Directly from the Fairy Tale Trail, follow the signs and experience an adventurous short hike over enchanted paths with breathtaking views of the castle.
History of the Fairy Tale Trail:
The Fairy Tale Trail was already opened in 1972. The ideas for designing the Fairy Tale Trail came from the then captain and re-founder of the Historical Citizen Guard Hechingen e.V., Vitus Mayer. The figures were created by steel artist Wilfried Rexze from Pfäffingen between 1969 and 1971. After renovation and refurbishment, the Fairy Tale Trail was ceremoniously reopened in June 2016.
Fairy tale walk with storytelling:
The guided fairy tale walk with stories and riddles at various figures of the Fairy Tale Trail becomes an experience for young and old. The storyteller Sigrid Maute brings the fairy tale heroes to life in her stories. The fairy tale tours are suitable for school classes, daycare groups, club groups, family groups, or as a children’s birthday outing with children from 5 years old.
Duration: approx. 1 hour
Price on request, dependent on group size

The Fairy Tale Trail is accessible via Badstraße and Niederhechinger Straße in Hechingen. From the Haigerlocher Straße/Badstraße fork, the Fairy Tale Trail is signposted. Around 12 parking spaces are directly available at the Fairy Tale Trail.
Additional parking options are located at the Im Weiher festival grounds. From there you can reach the Fairy Tale Trail Hechingen in about 850 m.
Parking is available at Eisweiher coming from the Schützenhaus or from Hechingen heading towards Lindich at the forest parking lot/forest educational trail, but then it is a somewhat longer route towards Martinsquelle via the Vitus Mayer path. Those who take the long round via the forest educational trail might encounter forest animals in some clearings!
Book tip: The Fairy Tale Trail Hechingen is also described as a family excursion destination in the book “Stroller & Carry Tours Swabian Alb” by Sabine Volkert and Simone Haas published by Wanda Verlag. It contains valuable tips for use with strollers as well as hiking values for siblings.
