Altensteig Nature Adventure Trail

Initially, the path leads towards Altensteig, where a short detour from the roundabout at Bahnhofstraße to the Altensteigerle display evokes nostalgic memories. A beautiful meadow path leads towards Altensteig, where soon the unique old town appears. At the Mittlere Reute, a rest station with a wonderful view of the old town invites you to take the first break. After crossing the town relief road, a mystical enchanted forest awaits. Here, gnomes or fairies could soon be scurrying across the path. It continues into a valley with soothing silence. A bridge crosses over the Hirschgraben, then paths and trails lead down to the end of the Hirschgraben into the valley of the Bömbach. Upon arrival, a steep path leads up to the Egenhäuser Kapf. Here begins the nature reserve of the so-called Heckengäu. Rare plants, such as orchids, mighty silver thistles, and juniper bushes accompany the path, which also offers wonderful views far into the Black Forest. The climb is rewarded with a unique panoramic view. Immediately thereafter, the view turns to Walddorf, known for its special orchard meadows. In good weather, the entire silhouette of the Swabian Alb can even be seen from here. A comfortable forest road leads downhill. At the end of the forest, the village of Monhardt soon greets and directly the Biolandhof Wüthrich. Usually, some funny goats or cows are on the pasture, curiously watching the hikers. A short break is worthwhile here for two reasons, because the farm shop of the Wüthrich family offers delicious organic products for sale and a unique view far into the valley where Berneck Castle can be seen. After this exceptional taste package, the yellow lozenge shows the way to the highlight of the hike, which is the Monhardt water chamber. Here, the rafting of the Nagold Valley, maintained by the Rafting Guild Upper Nagold Valley, is gloriously revived, and in summer, feet can be cooled in the Nagold. Accompanied by the quiet babbling of the river with its wild, almost mangrove-like banks, the path returns to the starting point.

Via the L362, you can reach the starting point at the treatment plant both from Nagold and from the city center.

The starting point is located in the immediate vicinity of the Altensteig-Berneck train station bus stop.

Line X77 runs hourly from Herrenberg via Nagold to Altensteig. In Nagold, a transfer to the Kulturbahn is easily possible. In Herrenberg, transferring to the S-Bahn to Stuttgart works smoothly.
