The Via del Mare Astigiana is a route that begins in Isola d'Asti, offering suggestive views, passing through areas rich in history and nature. The route winds from the Molini hamlet to Isola Villa, where you can admire the landscape from the panoramic square of Piazza Giuseppe Gallo. Along the way you can observe the contrast between the urbanization of the plain and the historical charm of the hills. Continuing towards Mongardino and through San Sebastiano, you reach an area of Roman origin with a chapel significant for the local community. The itinerary then continues through the hills planted with vines up to Vigliano and the hamlet of Valmontasca, places known for the discovery of fossils, including the skeleton of a Pliocene whale preserved at the University of Turin. The territories present in this area of the Asti area are in fact of Pliocene origin, and have historically become famous for the numerous large and small fossil finds, which have contributed to significantly expanding local history. The landscape changes as you progress, with a mix of vineyards and woods, until you reach Montemarzo and then Azzano, where the stage ends. The latter area stands out for the diversity of the landscape and the presence of the Tanaro river, with an area characterized by sandy hills and poplar trees. The historic center of Azzano, of medieval origins, underlines the historical-cultural importance of the entire route.
