At 1,456 metres above sea level, the Großer Arber is the largest mountain in the Bavarian Forest. Close to the Czech border and between the towns of Bodenmais and Zwiesel, there is a ten-kilometre ski area that stretches right up to the summit of the mountain.

The ski area is very clearly laid out and is therefore perfect for families, as children can also be left to their own devices. Those who still need some practice will find the perfect area in the ArBär-Kinderland at the Thurnhof with four conveyor belts, a recreation room and child-friendly toilets. The family cross park with smaller waves and jumps is ideal for children and teenagers. The 1.2 km long toboggan run is also a great experience for families. The ascent to the run is easy with the chairlift and a toboggan bus takes tobogganists back to the valley station after the run.

Winter in all its facets
The Großer Arber is transformed into a snow paradise in winter: Thanks to the cold, Bohemian weather conditions, the snow quality on the Arber is particularly good. In addition, a fully automatic snowmaking system with 28 snow cannons and lances ensures perfect piste conditions.

Those who want to enjoy winter away from the alpine ski slopes will find 90 km of cross-country ski trails in the region. The ascent to the mountain station of the cable car is also worthwhile for pedestrians: a winter hiking trail leads to the summit of the Arber. From there you have a wonderful view of the area. After the winter tour, the newly built glass lift takes you from the mountain station directly to the two mountain inns "Eisensteiner Hütte" and "Arber-Schutzhaus".

Ski service in all areas
Centrally located on the Thurnhof slope, you will find all the ski schools. In addition to special courses for children, they also offer all other types of courses. The two ski hire centres offer a top selection of skis and boots. The ski depot is brand new: if you don't want to take your skis home with you every day, you can store them in the newly built ski depot.
