Bretten
Discover Bretten!
As the birthplace of Philipp Melanchthon, Bretten can look back on a proud past. To be precise, 1250 years of town history! Traces of this historic past can still be found today in numerous buildings and sights. You can discover them on a guided tour of the town or on your own.
The centre of the city's hustle and bustle is the market square. Every Wednesday and Saturday, regional and seasonal treasures are offered here.
Only a few metres away you will find the Old Town Hall and right next to it: the Melanchthon House. The impressive building stands out with its red sandstone colour. It was built in honour of Philipp Melanchthon - Martin Luther's closest colleague.
At the annual Peter and Paul Festival in July, you can experience Bretten's history up close. On the streets and alleys of the old town and during the historical procession on Sunday, you will become part of the medieval past yourself.
