Brunegg, with its castle of the same name on the last foothills of the southern Jura chain, belongs to the district of Lenzburg and lies on the southern edge of the Birrfeld. The village owes its name and existence to the castle. It belonged to the Habsburg Eigenamt, and the lower court had been in the hands of the castle owners since the 14th century. Bern included Brunegg in the Othmarsingen court of its Oberamt Lenzburg.
In the 19th century, Brunegg first belonged to the district of Brugg, then to the district of Lenzburg from 1840; it belonged to Windisch as a church district and to Birr from 1526. Brunegg has had its own Reformed church since 1967 and remained a farming village until the 20th century. The A1 motorway, which opened in 1970, touches Brunegg on the south-eastern border of the municipality; the one Mägenwil junction is on municipal territory, which led to the establishment of several traffic-dependent logistics companies. These companies provide many jobs. The years 2006 to 2008 saw a high level of construction activity; the population rose from 453 to 612. Brunegg is a good place to live. The rural surroundings with the nearby forest are ideal for a relaxing walk. Active village associations promote cultural life so that new residents quickly feel at home.
