A piece of heritage on Lake Brienz
Bönigen and Iseltwald offer you an unforgettable piece of heritage on your Alpine holiday. Both resorts are a part of the Interlaken vacation destination at the foot of the majestic three peaks Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
The abundance of activities – whether you are into exploring historic architecture, enjoying the local cuisine, listening to traditional music, hiking along the lakeside or making a splash on the water – will delight you.
We have accommodation options to suit all tastes, with hotels, hostels, camping sites, ‘sleeping in hay’ and vacation apartments to choose from. And while you’re here, don’t forget to savour the fish dishes, regional specialities and lake views on the terraces of our local restaurants.
Bönigen is characterised by its historic village centre. Narrow streets and 16th to 18th-century wooden houses embellished with carvings make this Bernese Oberland resort unique. The magnificent peaks are reflected in the deep blue waters of Lake Brienz – this is where the untamed mountain streams and rivers from the glaciers converge and find calm.
Besides hiking and mountain biking, there’s plenty of fun and recreation on and around the water. Whether you fancy soaking up the sun at the lido, discovering your surroundings in a canoe, taking an adrenaline-pumping jet boat ride or hiring a small boat for a leisurely afternoon on the lake, you’re spoilt for choice.
The small fishing village of Iseltwald on its peninsula on Lake Brienz is a haven of tranquillity. With its landmark castle, “Schneckeninsel”(snail islet) and the picturesque bay at its heart, Iseltwald exudes the aura of a place where time stands still. The shoreline beckons with paths and hiking trails and a boat rental and the scheduled passenger service invite you to explore the lake. A lido, play area, picnic areas with barbecue pits and a village shop complete the resort’s facilities.
