Welcome to Lauterbrunnen.
Lauterbrunnen (795m) lies in an impressive trough valley between gigantic rock faces and peaks. 72 waterfalls tumble over the rock faces into the valley.
The Staubbach Falls - one of the highest free-falling waterfalls in Europe - inspired Goethe to write his poem "Gesang der Geister über den Wassern". The world-famous author J.R.R. Tolkien was also inspired by the Lauterbrunnen Valley for the Rivendell in "Lord of the Rings".
The village is the starting point for countless excursion destinations. In summer, numerous hiking trails and mountain bike routes invite you to explore.
In winter, both the Mürren-Schilthorn and the Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen ski resorts are in the immediate vicinity. One of the longest ski runs leads from the Schilthorn down to Lauterbrunnen - a run with a difference in altitude of over 2,000 metres. For cross-country skiing enthusiasts, Lauterbrunnen offers a trail of around 16 kilometres along the icy waterfalls.
