Hohe Tauern - the National Park region in Carinthia

The Großglockner, Austria's highest (and probably most beautiful) peak at 3,798 metres, towers over the Hohe Tauern National Park region of Carinthia. The Pasterze, the largest glacier in the Eastern Alps, stretches out at its feet. Over 120 mountain lakes delight the eye, thundering waterfalls and gorges bear witness to the elemental power of water.

The Großglockner High Alpine Road is rightly described as the most impressive mountain road in the Alps, with six mountain railways taking hikers right into the heart of the Hohe Tauern mountains.
